Members Unite

Members Unite is a pretty new initiative and once I think is pretty cool! What’s the short story? Members sign up for a monthly fee ($5, $10, or $20/month). All of these fees are pooled together to create one big fund. Each month, 9 different projects are pitched to members, and the members vote on the projects. At the end of the month, the winning project receives the money raised from the fund and gets to work!

When I signed up this month, I wasn’t really sure what to expect as far as the projects were concerned. Some I thought were cute ideas, but really weren’t something I thought my $5 (let alone $5,000 for this month!) were worthy of. For example, one project was to print out a bunch of smiley face cards and hand them out in big cities to remind people to pay it forward. Cute? Absolutely. But not something I wanted the money to go to when there were other “more deserving” ideas.

To cast your vote, each member is allowed to rate each of the 9 projects with 1-5 stars. I had a tough time deciding which projects I thought deserved the highest rating, but eventually settled on two. The first one I gave 5 stars to was a project that will help feed babies. I mean seriously, who can’t get behind giving babies in need some food?? It also helped that Mason was looking at the projects with me and told me “look mama, cute baby eat bottle.” If this project wins, 20 babies will be fed for a year. Incredible.

Mason and I spent awhile looking at the pictures and talking about what each project was. I know he’s too young to understand most of it, but I’d love to instill a sense of how important charity and community service is, and this is an easy way to do it. Although the hungry babies wasn’t MY favorite initiative, I gave it 5 stars for Mason :)

I also gave 5 stars is the one I’m REALLY hoping wins. I think it’s my favorite of all of the projects. Apparently, I’m not the only one that feels that way because when I voted 13 other members had already voted and this was the winning project so far :) Anyway, the project gives homeless children a chance to get some education. If this project is given the money, 30 homeless kids will get tutors for a year. I love this idea. I love the idea of giving kids the tools they may need to change their situation. Coming from a family full of teachers, I’m big on education and this just seems way cool. I’d be proud and honored for my $5 to go towards helping these kids.

Want to join me on getting those kids their tutors?? Sign up for Members Unite, and vote!! If you do sign up, please let me know! I’d love to hear which project YOU think is most worthy! For a limited time, Members Unite is offering my community a 50% off discount on the annual membership fee of $25! Use code “WELOVEMOMS” when you sign up!

Thank you Beth! We hope we can help and shed some light on the needs of teachers in today’s education system – which coming from a family full of teachers, we’re sure you understand ;)
