Remember in college when everyone talked about the freshman 15? How now that there would be food readily available you have to be careful not to eat ALLLLL of it? I think M missed the memo. Now that he gets 3 solid meals a day, he SHOULD be cutting back on formula right? But he’s not. He still does around 30 oz of formula a day, plus another 6-8 at night… and 3 full meals. All of the baby books and websites say that by this age, they’ll start slimming down because they’ll be more active. Well instead, M is bulking up. He’s always been an active little man – now is no different, it’s just a different kind of active. His eating habits however have changed drastically. Today he had an entire egg (maybe more – A made 5 for all 3 of us) for breakfast. For lunch I made him a turkey hot dog… he ate the entire thing minus 4 tiny pieces that he dropped on the floor/fed to the dog. Then A and I went to eat lunch and M had a bunch of baked beans, some corn bread and some of my pulled pork sandwich (for the record he could not understand the stringy meat AT ALL and kept trying to flick it off his fingers which was extra cute). Then when dinner rolled around he had some corn, some steak, some rice, and some cheese. (yeah we had a total veggie fail today). The child is a bottomless pit. And while I’ve always said I wanted a fat baby – do I need to be worried about this?? Will he ever figure out that he doesn’t HAVE to eat every single bit of food placed in front of him? Will he realize that he doesn’t have to drink as much formula if he’s eating 3 meals a day? For now, I figure I’ll just roll with it and follow his cues. And if his plan is to pack on the pounds and gain that freshman 15 well… so be it.
